A Reconciling Congregation
*VIM Haiti Team leaves 2/28/12VIM Haiti Team is preparing to travelThe next VIM Haiti team trip is scheduled for February 28 - March 7, 2012. This will be a work team helping to plaster the interior walls and to stucco the exterior walls. The only requirement is a cheerful heart to help the Haitian skilled workers. Is this the time for your Haitian mission experience? See Bob Parker for more information, or contact him at 863-7348 or parker.nh@gmail.com. To help the team make this a successful mission trip please consider contributing to the following: FILL OUR SUITCASESEach VIM Haiti Team takes suitcases full of useful items to give to the Haitian people. Beginning Sunday, February 5, the VIM Haiti Team will be collecting new/gently used ball caps, new/gently use t-shirts, heavy duty work gloves, and new children's underwear (with packaging intact). You can put your donations into the empty suitcases in the narthex. Thank you.
FEED HUNGRY HAITIANS In the neighborhood where the VIM Haiti Team works, not everyone eats every day. While in Haiti, the VIM Haiti Teams provide a daily lunch for the neighborhood people. Our last day in August 2011, we fed lunch to over 250 people. The total cost to feed lunch and provide potable water is $2000. Please help us feed the hungry. Checks should be made payable to Lebanon UMC memo VIM Haiti and mailed to Lebanon United Methodist Church, 18 School Street, Lebanon, NH 03766. Thank you.
EYEGLASSES FOR HAITI UPDATE Last summer, the New England Annual Conference (including Lebanon UMC) gave about 2000 pairs of new and used eyeglasses to give to a Haitian Methodist Church clinic. Last August, 659 pairs were delivered; hundreds more will be delivered by the February VIM Haiti Team. Pro-Optical in the K-Mart Plaza and White River Family Eyecare in White River Junction has determined the prescriptions of hundreds of pairs of used glasses. Time and expertise help make this project possible.
Mission Team Update 8/29/2011: The Mission Team arrived home on Sunday, August 20, 2011 Why Haiti?
The Lebanon United Methodist Church has been helping build the Croix des Mission Methodist Church in Port-au-Prince since 2006. This church will become an important new addition to the community once built, serving in many other uses in addition to providing the community a new place to worship.
The Team will have two tasks while at Croix des Mission. Two or three team members will work during the week with children. The other five or six will labor with the Haitians as the church walls are plastered.
Team leader, Bob Parker has made several trips to Croix des Mission during the past few years and his wife Sharon went for the second time in August 2011. Parker Sorenson, who graduated from Lebanon High School in June, experiencing a new adventure before he started college with the team also in August 2011.
You can feed the hungry. It's true. Many of the people of Croix des Mission do not eat every day. While the VIM team is in Port-au-Prince, your contributions fund a daily meal for everyone in the neighborhood: cost $2,000. Or, you can house the poor. Many earthquake damaged houses need repairs. Others in the neighborhood live in tents. Repair 10 -12 houses for $5,000. Or, you can help finish the church. This is nearly a $150,000 project; only $38,000 to go. This will fund the remaining part of the roof, plaster the interior, stucco the exterior, run wire for electricity, and buy windows and doors. Every donated dollar helps the Croix des Mission church, its neighborhood, and its people.
