VIM Haiti Mission Team in Action-August 2011*
The Lebanon United Methodist Church has been helping build the Croix des Mission Methodist Church in Port-au-Prince, Haiti since 2006. This church will become an important new addition to the community once built, serving in many other uses in addition to providing the community a new place to worship.
VIM Mission Team members from Lebanon United Methodist Church that went on this particular trip were Bob (team leader) & Sharon Parker, both retired teachers and Parker Sorenson, who recently graduated high school and now headed for the University of Connecticut. VIM Team members from other churches throughout the US joined the Lebanon team once they reach Haiti and included:
Carolyn Hale- A biology teacher in Connecticut. Graduated in 2008 from UConn (Go Huskies!).
Nina and Don Goodroe- A couple from Georgia.
Michelle Pierre- Haitian American from Boston who is serving as our energetic translator.
Lissa Olbeter- Another Bostonian who currently works at Brigham and Women’s Hospital with Harvard Medical School.
The Team had two tasks while at Croix des Mission. Some work during the week with children while others worked with the Haitians as the church to work on the church building.
