Our Hearts Go Out to Haitians

LEBANON UMC CONNECTS TO OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN HAITI

In the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, Lebanon UMC is connecting and responding by:

PRAYING. We pray for our Haitian brothers and sisters who had little and now have nothing. And, we pray that God comfort Michelle Pierre, who lost three nieces and nephews, and Nehemy Theodore. Both have family members unaccounted for.

GIVING. During the last three Sundays in January, a special offering is being given for United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR). Checks should be made out to Lebanon UMC and write "Haiti Emergency" on the memo line. We will continue to receive these gifts in the following months, as the need will be ongoing. Or you can give directly to UMCOR at www.umcor.org. In partnership with other aid agencies, UMCOR is providing immediate aid and is planning long term projects. Your generous giving is essential.

MAKING HEALTH KITS. UMCOR's entire stock of health kits (valued over $250,000) has been shipped to Haiti. Although simple, health kits are very effective in disaster relief operations. Many thousand more health kits are required in Haiti.

The Missions Team usually has its focus on Hygiene Kits in April, however, given recent events in Haiti there is an immediate need for Hygiene Kits. (Among so many other needs!) We will be collecting kits and the contents for kits from now until Valentines Day on Sunday February 14. Please drop your completed kits or kit contents in the red box in narthex marked “Hygiene Kits”.

This is one more opportunity to send forth Christian love, opening our hearts to the suffering of the Haitian people.

Please adhere to the list below and provide only the contents as described. Regulations are very strict about what has approval and can be sent.

KIT CONTENTS

Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.

1 hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27” no kitchen, fingertip or bath towels)
1 washcloth
1 comb (wide toothed, large and sturdy-not pocket-sized)
1 fingernail clipper (no metal files, emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
