Worship Services

Welcome!

At Lebanon United Methodist Church, you will find a warm welcome and a vibrant community of people of all ages! We believe God meets each one of us where we are, and no matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, we hope we can journey together. We invite you to come exactly as you are: single, partnered, with or without kids, young or young at heart, poor or poor in spirit. Why not visit Lebanon UMC for a worship service, and see if this might be a community for you?

What to expect when you visit

On Sunday mornings, you may park either along the sides of School Street, or in the school parking lot, which is next to the church. Entering through the red front doors, you will be met by greeters who can assist you. If you are a first-time visitor, please take a hospitality bag from the table (they look like popcorn bags), as our way of thanking you for "popping" by. You may also wish to make yourself a name tag, and to sign the guest book. Our sanctuary is comfortable and spacious, but it does fill up sometimes, so you may want to find a seat before the service begins.

The worship service

Worship services last about an hour, but may run over by a few minutes. We try to incorporate many elements into each worship service, because we all learn and grow closer to God in different ways. A service might include traditional hymns and contemporary music, a children's message, preaching and teaching, choral anthems or solos, projected pictures or videos, dancing, singing, praying, silence, sacraments and more. At the conclusion of the service, you are invited to come back into the Social Hall for conversation and refreshments.

Communion

On the first Sunday of the month, we celebrate communion by sharing bread and grape juice, and remembering the stories of Jesus eating with his disciples. You do not need to be a member of this or any church to participate in this holy act; perhaps this might be a place where you meet God again or for the first time! You will be invited to come forward and receive a piece of bread, and dip it into a cup of grape juice. So that all people may participate in communion, we use grape juice in place of wine, and we have a gluten-free bread option available.

Child care and Sunday School

During the entire service, we have a nursery available for small children, and children ages 5 and up may attend Sunday School following the children's message. Our nursery and Sunday School classrooms are always staffed by at least two people, cleared to work with children through our Safe Sanctuaries policy and procedures (you can read more about this here).

Rest rooms

Bathrooms are located just outside the doors that are at the front of the sanctuary (beyond where the choir sits), and can be accessed by walking down the hallway beside the sanctuary. We have two single-user bathrooms (or family/assisted use-- the restroom on the left has a changing table). Restrooms are wheelchair accessible and are not designated for particular genders.

Accessibility and hearing assistance

All of the services and activities of Lebanon UMC can be accessed on one floor, without any need to navigate stairs or narrow passageways. The sanctuary is equipped with an excellent sound system, but if you are having trouble hearing, please let an usher know, and someone will assist you.

We hope that your time worshipping at Lebanon United Methodist Church is meaningful for you, and that you find a presence of Love in both the planned worship and in the spontaneous welcome of the community.
